Renewable Energy

Introduction

Renewable energy is defined as an energy source that can be regenerated in a human time scale or the lifetime of the average human being. Most renewable energy sources are derived directly or indirectly from the sun, for example solar, bioenergy, and wind energy are all possible due to energy influences of the sun. Other renewable energy sources are derived from additional environmental mechanisms such as geothermal or wave energy.

Alternative energy does not include energy resources derived from fossil fuels, waste products from fossil sources, or waste products from inorganic sources. The key element separating these sources of energy from renewable sources is that they cannot be regenerated in as short a period of time as the other sources. Renewable energy sources also offer self-sufficient alternatives to fossil fuels. Renewable energy is typically harvested domestically, which reduces the reliance on the often politically charged fossil fuel trade.
