Earthpace identifies new opportunities
for satellite remote sensing data and geographic information
systems (GIS) in emergency preparedness and response,
environmental impact assessment, water resources, and
other decision-making contexts.
Satellite Remote
Sensing Information
Earthpace is a leader in identifying appropriate
remote sensing information for use in environmental
legal applications. Earthpace has published
an assessment of the evidentiary issues associated with
the use of satellite data in courts in the Duke Law
School Environmental Law and Policy Forum. Earthpace
is a member of the Environmental Legal Information Systems
Team, a NASA Earth Science Information Partner.
Geographic Information
Systems
Through its work with ELIS, Earthpace
developed a scenario
around a geographic information system for the Chesapeake Bay region to assist
the emergency response team to make better decisions
for the planning, response, assessment, and enforcement
activities related to an oil spill.
Web-based
Information Tools
Earthpace develops Web-based databases to
facilitate access to information about a particular
project of an organization. Earthpace
identifies relevant sources and saves them in a searchable
database, essentially creating a 'toolkit' of key resources
for practitioners.
Scenario Development
Scenario development is a method for creatively describing
possible alternatives for the future. By applying a
set of variables to a current condition or decision
point and describing how an event may turn out, scenarios
allow users to consider its potential outcome. Earthpace
develops scenarios to assist in decision-making, policy
development, and capacity building.
